History of vodka

Poland is considered all over the world to be the birthplace of vodka. Historical and ethnographical researches are the best proof of this. The first documented information about vodka in the lands of Poland came from the XVth century. The first record containing the word „vodka” was found in judicial notes from the year 1405 – in the Sandomierskie province. Within centuries, the production of Polish vodka became a legend and a part of national tradition, history, literature, habits and social life. Systematically improved technology of vodka production brought this spirit to the highest levels of quality and perfection.

For centuries, Polish vodka has been known and appreciated in over 100 countries on all continents, finding multitudes of consumers everywhere. Produced traditionally from carefully selected corns and potatoes, Polish vodka is beyond compare. The proof of it are countless medals, cups and distinctions achieved in all recognized international competitions. For generations world vodka connoisseurs have known the most famous Polish brands: Baczewski, Luksusowa, Żytnia, Belvedere, Wyborowa, Żubrówka and many others. On the international forum, Polish vodka is recognized as one of four Polish icons.

Polish vodka for Poles and for the world is the same as whisky for the Scots or Champagne and Cognac for the French.

Nowadays, Poland is the fourth largest vodka market in the World, after Russia, USA and Ukraine. The annual vodka production in Poland is about 260 million liters.
